The iconic travelling marshals will be provided with CBR1000RR machinery, while the Civic Type R will be seen round the Mountain Course’s 37.73 miles as the official Course Car.
Built in Swindon, the Civic Type R shares the same fundamentals as the Civic hatchback and has been engineered from the ground up to deliver the most rewarding drive in the hot-hatch segment – both on road and on the racetrack. The multiple award-winning, and not to mention the fastest front-wheel-drive production car around the infamous Nürburgring, is available for under £300 a month and was launched in summer 2017. The power comes from the 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO engine that has been optimised and refined to produce 320 PS with peak torque of 400 Nm that can deliver a top speed of 169mph and the 0-62mph sprint in just 5.7 seconds.
The Honda Motor Company has been making motorcycles since 1947. In fact, the first ever product was a motorcycle; by attaching an auxiliary engine to a bicycle frame, the A-Type was born. Since then, Honda have been constantly innovating and pushing to be the best. Now one of the world’s leading motorcycle manufacturers, Honda produce over 50 motorbike models; from the pocket-sized MSX125, to the CBR1000RR Fireblade, as used again by the TT marshals this year.
The Isle of Man TT holds a special place in the heart of Honda ever since they first competed on the Island back in 1959 and won the Constructors Prize at their first attempt. Honda’s founder was determined to create a TT-winning machine:
“I will put my entire heart and soul, and turn my creativity and skills to the task of entering the TT races and winning them.” – Soichiro Honda
Just two years after that first race this dream came true in 1961; Honda won the 125cc and 250cc races with Mike Hailwood taking a double victory. What made these victories all the more important is that before this historic moment the sport was dominated by European machines.
Racing is part of Honda’s DNA with competitors in both two and four-wheel championships, on and off the road. Who else can say that they have teams in the Formula One, MotoGP, Indycar, World Motocross, World Touring Car Cup, Isle of Man TT, Endurance, Trial and World Superbike championships? (Plus a lot more!)
Honda are proud to be an official partner of the Isle of Man TT and look forward to all of the excitement to come this year…Visit the HONDA CARS official website
