CLASSIC TT 2026: JOHN MCGUINNESS EXHIBITION & CINEMA
For 30 years, John McGuinness MBE has been one of the defining figures of the Isle of Man TT. From arriving on the Island in 1996 with a Honda RS250R and a dream, to becoming a 23-time TT winner, recording the first-ever 130mph lap and reaching the milestone of 100 TT starts, his story has become part of TT folklore.
Now, fans can step inside that remarkable journey at the John McGuinness MBE Pop-Up Exhibition and Cinema, open daily throughout the Classic TT from Wednesday 19 to Friday 28 August.
Located just moments from the Grandstand, the Mercury Club will host a free special exhibition celebrating three decades of McGuinness' career, headlined by ten exhibits focused on some of the defining moments of the Morecambe Missile's time around the Mountain Course.
Each exhibit will centre around the motorcycle ridden to a significant milestone, alongside the leathers and helmet worn during that chapter of his career. The collection begins with the Honda RS250R that McGuinness and Paul Bird brought to the Isle of Man in 1996, unknowingly laying the foundations for one of the greatest careers in TT history.
Other machines on display include the Honda 250 that delivered McGuinness' first TT victory in the 1999 Lightweight TT, the Yamaha R1 that secured his first Superbike win in 2004, and the iconic 2007 Honda Fireblade that carried him to the first-ever 130mph lap of the Mountain Course during the Centenary TT.
Visitors will also be able to see the Honda CBR1000RR from his legendary 2015 Senior TT victory, widely regarded as one of the finest performances of his career. Completing the exhibition will be the special-edition 2026 Honda Fireblade created to celebrate his 30 years at the TT.
Alongside these iconic machines will be a display dedicated to another famous feature of the McGuinness story: the voodoo helmet. Since 1999, the distinctive voodoo doll design has been a constant companion around the Mountain Course, with his well-known pre-race ritual becoming as much a part of TT folklore as the rider himself. A specially curated installation will bring together a selection of these helmets, accompanied by insight into their history and significance.
A further exhibition area will explore McGuinness' impact on motorcycle racing both on and off the track. A collection of photographs, personal artefacts and historic memorabilia will chart his influence on the sport, including recognition of the MBE awarded for services to motorcycle racing.
Located within the Mercury Club, fans will also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the celebrations through a dedicated John McGuinness-themed cinema, screening career highlights, memorable races and exclusive features from across three decades of TT competition.
The venue will also host a live recording of the popular TT Podcast with Chris Pritchard and Lee Johnston, giving fans the chance to hear stories and reflections from those who have witnessed McGuinness' career first-hand. A merchandise area will also be available throughout the event for those wanting to take home a lasting reminder of the celebration.
Rounding off the McGuinness celebrations will be a special edition of Between the Hedges on TT+, bringing together friends, rivals and contemporaries to share their memories of one of the most remarkable careers in modern TT history.
