JULIAN TRUMMER AGREES DEAL WITH SMITH RACING AHEAD OF 2026 ISLE OF MAN TT

Austrian Julian Trummer joins the Cumbria-based team as the fastest rider from mainland Europe ever to lap the Mountain Course, contesting the full 1000cc programme alongside the two Monster Energy Supersport TT races.

He will ride a Triumph Street Triple 765 in both Supersport encounters, while Smith Racing have added a BMW M1000RR to their stable for the RST Superbike TT, both RL360 Superstock TT races and the Milwaukee Senior TT.

Based in the Lake District, Smith Racing initially built their reputation in motocross, where Wayne Smith secured multiple British Championship titles and competed at World Championship level. Their first involvement at the TT came in 2018 supporting Adrian Harrison, with the Bradford rider going on to secure a top-25 finish the following year.

The team returned to the Mountain Course in 2023 backing Manx rider Michael Evans, who impressed throughout qualifying before taking 12th place in the opening Monster Energy Supersport TT race. Evans was also on course for a top ten finish in race two before technical issues forced his retirement.

That momentum continued into 2024 as Evans claimed strong ninth and tenth-place finishes and lapped at more than 126mph around the TT Course. Another top ten result followed twelve months later, underlining the team’s steady progression in the Supersport category and establishing Smith Racing as an increasingly competitive presence in the TT paddock.

Trummer arrives at Smith Racing with considerable Mountain Course experience.

Having made his TT debut in 2017, Trummer arrives at Smith Racing with considerable Mountain Course experience. The Austrian rider has now made 29 TT starts and set a personal best lap of 128.638mph during the 2023 Milwaukee Senior TT. He followed that with impressive finishes of 11th and 14th in the 2024 RST Superbike TT and Milwaukee Senior TT respectively, performances that earned him seeded status for the 1000cc races.

Trummer’s best TT result to date came in 2018 when he secured an excellent ninth-place finish in the Lightweight TT. With eight top-20 finishes to his name and years of experience developing around the Mountain Course, the 35-year-old now targets further progression aboard Smith Racing’s new package.

Adam Smith said: “We’re delighted to welcome Julian to the Smith Racing Team, riding the Triumph 765 and, new for 2026, we have the BMW M1000RR. Julian has shown a keen interest towards us as a team over the last couple of years so we are looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together. He proved he’s knocking on the door of the top ten in 2024 and as well as working well as a team, we’ve also become good friends.”

Julian Trummer will contest all five solo classes for Smith Racing at the 2026 Isle of Man TT Races.

Julian Trummer said: “I’m really excited to finally get things underway with Smith Racing at this year’s Isle of Man TT. I haven’t felt this comfortable and confident within a team environment  and on the bikes for a very long time. The atmosphere with the guys has been incredible from day one, and it already feels like we’re all moving in exactly the right direction together.”

“I’m grateful to have been given the trust and the opportunity to ride for Smith Racing this year. That means a lot to me, and it gives us the stability and confidence to really focus on building something strong together.”

“Smith Racing work at an extremely professional level, and they’ve already proven themselves over the last few years, especially in the Supersport category where the team is now very well established. That naturally gives me a lot of confidence that I can improve my own performances in the Supersport class as well.”

“The biggest priority is continuing to build momentum, keep improving step by step, and keep progressing after personally missing last year’s TT. Right now, the focus is on putting everything together, enjoying the process, and making sure we keep moving forward every time we go out on track.”

The new partnership marks a significant step forward for both rider and team as Smith Racing expands into the 1000cc categories for the first time. With proven Supersport form, additional investment in machinery and one of Europe’s most experienced TT competitors leading the programme, the team head into 2026 targeting their strongest TT results yet.
