BARRY FURBER

The quietly spoken Furber often goes under the radar at the TT and his results don’t get the credit they deserve. It’s the Supertwin class where he’s shone the most and, after competing at the Manx Grand Prix in 2014 and 2015, he stepped up to the TT and promptly took three consecutive top 15 finishes in the Lightweight race, 11th in 2017 the initial highlight. A lap of over 123mph in the Senior also highlighted his capabilities.

Since then, he’s struggled somewhat on the 1000cc machines failing to get near those speeds and it’s hard to fathom out why as he’s excelled elsewhere especially at in the Classic Superbike races at the Manx Grand Prix where he finished ninth, 11th and tenth and 11th respectively from 2022 to 2024.

With former, and regular, top ten TT finisher Ian Armstrong in his corner, 2023 saw him take a step in the right direction at the TT with regular 121mph+ laps on his 1000cc BMW whilst he also took two strong top twenty finishes in the Supersport class. However, it was the Supertwin class where he again excelled with superb finishes of sixth and ninth and he was deservedly seeded for the two races in 2024.

He couldn’t quite reach the heights of the year before but tenth was taken in the second Supertwin where he increased his lap speed to more than 118mph whilst another two twenty finish was recorded in the Supersport class. The 1000cc races were again a bit more challenging but a lap of 122.673mph showed he was edging in the right direction and 2025 got off to the perfect start with a rostrum finish at the North West 200, his maiden International road race podium.
