JOEY THOMPSON
Thompson made his TT debut when aged just 19 years of age in 2017 but after a solid maiden campaign around the Mountain Course, he showed his credentials the following year when he took an excellent fifth in the Lightweight race whilst also lapping at close to 123mph in the Supersport class. It looked like a promising TT career lay in store, but he opted out of the 2019 event as his road racing plans were put on hold.
He returned in 2022 but never looked at ease on the Wilson Craig Racing Honda’s, particularly the 1000cc machines, and his results, and speeds, weren’t a reflection of his talent. He ended the year with a morale-boosting ninth at the Macau Grand Prix and he was back to his best at the TT in 2023 when he focused on the Supersport races with fine finishes of 15th and 16th the outcome. Another trip to Macau saw him finish 11th which was arguably a better result than the year before as the entry was back to full strength.
Once under the wing of Ian Lougher, Thompson has more recently gone his own way with his small, family-run team but it appears to be paying dividends. 2024 yielded two more top twenty finishes in the Supersport races whilst, perhaps more tellingly, he made good progress in the 100cc class, the Senior seeing him up his speeds considerably to more than 125mph.
It was a case of ‘more of the same’ in 2025 with two more top twenty Supersport finishes and another 125mph+ lap on the big bike, this time with Team York Suzuki. He continues with the same team in 2026 but lines up for TH Racing in the Supersport and Sportbike categories.
