Isle of Man TT Races Joey Thompson Rider Guide

Joey Thompson

Joey Thompson made his debut at the Isle of Man TT Races aged just 19 years of age in 2017. After a solid maiden campaign around the TT Mountain Course, he showed his credentials the following year when he took an excellent fifth in the Lightweight Race whilst also lapping at close to 123mph in the Monster Energy Supersport TT Races. It looked like a promising TT career lay in store, but he opted out of the 2019 event as his road racing plans were put on hold.

Thompson returned to the TT in 2022 but never looked at ease on the Wilson Craig Racing Honda’s, particularly the 1000cc machines, and his results, and speeds, weren’t a reflection of his talent. Joey ended the 2022 season with a morale-boosting ninth at the Macau Grand Prix and was back to his best at  TT in 2023, focussing his attention on the Supersport races he produced fine finishes of 15th and 16th. A consecutive trip to the Macau Grand Prix saw him finish 11th which was arguably a better result than the year before as the entry was back to full strength.

Thompson has more recently gone his own way with his small, family-run team but it appears to be paying dividends. Still only 26, he’s entered all solo classes for TT 2024 and should make further progress in each.
